Auckland Branch of NZAGC:
?Explorers?
The Auckland Branch:
- has members from all over greater Auckland
- provides a comfortable environment for gifted children where they will be able to make friends with others of their own age and ability
- provides opportunities for parents of gifted children to meet to share experiences
- seeks to foster good relationships between home and school in the interests of the gifted child
- educates the public about gifted children by disseminating information and initiating new research.
Activities include:
- Clubdays 4-5 times per term on Saturday afternoons.
- Holiday trips
- Sleepovers e.g. at Kelly Tarlton?s, or for Halloween.
- Two weekend camps a year
- Information evenings for parents to meet specialists in e.g. education or psychology.
Clubdays range from computers and carnivorous plants to map-making and music and are organised by the committee and parents. Tutors and guest speakers often run these sessions. The cost is usually $5 per family, sometimes more if speakers have a high charge. Ideas for clubdays come from members, sometimes catering for a child?s particular interest. Clubdays, trips and camps are family occasions, and parents are expected to remain with their children.
A library of games, puzzles, videos, CD ROMS, audiotapes and books is available on clubdays. NZAGC has an extensive library for parents and educators.
