Who are we? TUANZ is the user's champion in the knowledge economy. Formed in 1986, TUANZ is the non-profit organisation that represents business telecommunications interests and is committed to ensuring that New Zealand develops a competitive and innovative telecommunications market. Our Association has more than 500 corporate members, who represent a cross-section of the major business users of telecommunications. These include: * major banks and credit card companies * supermarket and fast food chains * universities and tertiary institutions * government agencies * major carriers * many more businesses in a cross-section of industries What is our purpose? TUANZ is a unique source of information and education, support and inspiration, and provides an independent forum by which to lead informed, sophisticated usage of technology-based communications by business users in New Zealand. What is our mission? We seek a fair deal in this age of information. We realise this by: * providing quality written information to business users * giving them opportunities for informal communication * being a strong, effective advocate to government and industry * encouraging and supporting the activities of special interest groups What is our vision? Our vision is for the New Zealand telecommunications environment to be a source of competitive advantage to New Zealand business. TUANZ is committed to achieving a commercial telecommunications environment where carriers compete fairly under the same rules and where carrier success is based on the merits of their product and service offerings. We believe: * telecommunications should become a source of competitive advantage to New Zealand's economy * all New Zealand businesses must have access to a comprehensive, affordable and modern communication system * the user should have real choice and receive real value * the telecommunications industry should meet its social obligations and have a purpose beyond short-term profit. How do we achieve this? TUANZ helps its members to utilise the wide range of technologies and services by providing access to high quality services, information and support. We: * represent our members' interests to the Government, the Telecommunications Commissioner and carriers, as well as on numerous industry bodies * produce a range of specialist and authoritative publications. * host and co-host a programme of ongoing events, networking and education opportunities * Organise three specialist divisions: education, contact centres, and interactive. * provide an IT knowledge base unmatched in New Zealand. Our 'After 5's' seminars (after work sessions on the latest technologies) attract several hundred members every month. * co-sponsor several awards schemes and competitions that recognise excellence through a variety of telecommunications-related fields. TUANZ also acts as a medium for informed debate by providing a way for the business user to be heard at all political and commercial levels in the telecommunications marketplace. In the last 18 months, we have convinced the incoming government to mount a ministerial inquiry into telecommunications in New Zealand and followed that through to the culmination of legislation that resulted in the appointment of a Telecommunications Commissioner. This is TUANZ TUANZ is uniquely positioned to help New Zealand businesses and individuals through an ever increasingly competitive telecommunications environment. We have never been shy in standing up and being counted. TUANZ is committed to leading New Zealand's business community into a new era of telecommunications.
