Academic Colleges Group (ACG), New Zealand’s leading independent educational services provider, has significantly expanded its Tertiary and Careers Division with the acquisition of New Zealand Management Academies (NZMA).
NZMA has campuses at Sylvia Park and Otahuhu in Auckland, a campus in Hamilton and serves around 3,000 domestic and international students. NZMA provides programmes from Levels 2 to 7 in hospitality, cookery, business studies, contact centre operations, retail and construction.
ACG delivers education to over 6,000 students in three countries through its 11 schools and colleges. NZMA joins New Zealand Career College and ACG Yoobee School of Design in ACG’s Tertiary and Careers Division, and is ACG’s largest Private Training Establishment (PTE) acquisition to date.
ACG Chief Executive and Managing Director, Ian King, said the Group was continuing to diversify its portfolio of high quality educational services. NZMA is the third PTE ACG has acquired this year, and all three are classified by NZQA as Category 1 providers, the highest rating.
“NZMA is a leader in its sector of the market, and is helping to lift educational outcomes for its communities, something ACG is very focused on,” said Mr King. “We are pleased to have NZMA join ACG along ACG Yoobee School of Design and New Zealand Career College (NZCC). Our vision for a comprehensive tertiary and careers division offering a wide range of qualifications and pathways to the workforce is now a reality.”
Details of the transaction remain commercially confidential. ACG has acquired the NZMA business from Tim Cullinane, who bought NZMA 12 years ago.
NZMA Chairman Tim Cullinane said he was delighted that ACG brought with it the vision, resources and capabilities to take the education provider into its next phase of development.
Mr Cullinane also thanked outgoing Chief Executive, Rosanne Graham, whom he credited with developing NZMA into a market-leading tertiary provider. Eighty-four per cent of NZMA’s domestic students are Maori or Pasifika, and the institution achieves among the highest graduation and employment outcomes in the sector.
ACG’s Divisional Chief Executive of the ACG Tertiary and Careers Group, Feroz Ali, said NZMA represented a significant addition to ACG’s tertiary and careers capability.
“For NZMA operationally it will be business as usual, and we will work with the team to further develop what is an outstanding educational offering,” Mr Ali said.
Mr King said that ACG’s capabilities now covered early childhood education right through to secondary and tertiary plus training services. “We are continuing to build a robust and diversified portfolio of independent educational services, true to the vision of our founders to give our students access to the best education, and help our communities lift educational performance.”
