The Gifted Child.

This is often the child that bring both parents and teachers to despair. On the one hand they can be exciting and exhilarating to talk to and work with.On the other hand they can equally be frustrating. Living and working with these children can be exhausting. The gifted child can be reasoning as a 12 year old one moment and the next acting as a 7 year old which is their chronological age. They can talk about scientific inventions, latest space exploration, discuss the opinions on the validity of the bible and the feelings of the teenagers of today and the next minute throw the most child like tantrum that makes them look like a two year old because they didn,t get their own way or something they wanted at the exact moment that they wanted it.
The teacher or parent is completely in awe of the level at which the child can operate in some situations and totally frustrated at the child like reaction to simple everyday instructions.
Does this sound like a child you know? The seven year old who wants to learn algebra and inquistive mind takes them into all kinds of discovery and is quite capable, but can't remember to bring home theirspelling book? "The three year old who wants to know if her new desk "comes complete." "Complete?" "You know, Mom, with a computer!" The high school student, not known for his scholastic talents, who quietly sits in his classes and 'doodles' detailed technical drawings of a new automotive design that years later becomes one of the most uptodate models of it's time.
Just remember that if that sounds familiar to you it also does to similar parents all over the world. Not that that always brings consolation at the time.

I really enjoyed reading this article as I could relate to all that you said. My daughter is like this and at times I feel so frustrated because I don't always know how to handle the situation.
