Aspergers Booklet
Author : Cloud 9 Foundation

Created : 02 Dec 2002
Last Revision : 02 Dec 2002

After a longer than anticipated wait, Aspergers Syndrome 'What Teachers Need To Know', has finally been printed!

The many people who have received the free electronic version of this booklet have commented on how easy to read and understand the book is. It has been put together with busy teachers in mind so that they can quickly get the most essential information on Aspergers Syndrome.

Many parents have also contacted us to say how useful they have found it. A lot use it as a discussion tool with their childs teacher or show it to others to give them a better understanding of the syndrome. Most importantly it is packed with ideas and strategies that teachers can start using straight away.

The positive words about the booklet spread all the way over to the UK where Jessica Kingsley Publishers heard about it. We are excited to announce that we now have a contract with them to publish the booklet worldwide! However, we are still allowed to distribute the booklet in New Zealand, giving you access to it at a much discounted price and ahead of the rest of the world. Unfortunately we can not continue the distribution of the electronic version. We would like to remind all those who received it that they are welcome to keep it as a personal reference but they may not distribute it further.

If you would like to purchase a copy of the booklet you can now do so. We have tried to keep the price as low as possible and have settled on $10 a booklet plus postage and packaging. Fill in the order form in this newsletter and post it off today.

The Foundation is happy to announce that all primary and secondary schools will be receiving one free copy early in the first term next year. We know many schools will want more than this and that early childhood centres are desperate for copies but our funds only allow us to go so far. We hope that having this information available in all schools will dramatically raise awareness and make a real difference. Schools are welcome to order additional copies through us.

Typical of the feedback received from teachers, parents and other professionals were these quotes:

Thank you for emailing What teachers need to know. What a fabulous booklet- it could almost be an instruction manual for my 8 year old son. What teachers need to know is everything I needed to tell the staff when he started school, and very clearly written. I'm sure it will become a valuable resource for many schools and parents.

I thought the book was wonderful, it is so clear. I can see quite a few children at our school, more easily. I have given the teacher in charge of special needs the copy, and she is very grateful, as she was unclear how it affected some children. I also have two daughters that are teachers and they read it and felt it was a good resource that every teacher should read. Many thanks.

I think the booklet is just great, really superb and it supports the work I am doing with students with Asperger Syndrome on my RTLB roll. I have already given a copy of it to the teachers I am working with who have ASD children in their classes
