Hamilton Skills Centre involves young people in Youth Training and Training Opportunities to find direction, motivation and development while on vocational training.  The value of using an experiential approach and using the outdoors group and personal development is explained demonstrating that given the appropriate environment and approach second chance learning can work for people who have lacked educational achievement in their secondary school years.

So where is the innovation we are talking about?

All courses run at Hamilton Skills Centre include experiential learning.  Recognising that students learn best by doing the programmes at the Centre encourage tutors to plan activities and lessons with this philosophy in mind.  Neatly fitting into this philosophy is the inclusion of Adventure Based Learning where not only does the approach to a learning outcome stem from active participation but also perhaps the environment or surroundings, feature as important eg. trust may be a learning outcome when using a high element of a challenge ropes course or belaying during a rock climbing exercise.
