The 2004 NZARN Conference will take place at CCE\'s Ilam Campus in Christchurch on 8-9 July. The conference is for you if you are keen to investigate and improve your teaching practices with a diverse group of like minded people. The gathering offers an exciting and inspiring programme of conference presentations and keynotes. The diversity of offerings reflects the nature of the network -- we are cross-disciplinary, cross-sector, inter-institutional, inter-cultural and methodologically diverse -- bound together by a mutual interest in investigating and improving our practices. While \"action research\" is the name in the network\'s title we do not limit ourselves to any particular approach but welcome tried-and-true methods alongside imaginative and innovative ways to examine and reflect upon the work we do. If you are new to the organisation you will find it a unique group to belong to. Each year we meet in a different location around Aotearoa New Zealand and our meetings follow a different format -- one year it might focus on workshops and panel discussions; another year it might be a hui on a marae -- the binding threads are the open friendly discussions, the welcoming and supportive approach and the genuine interest in our research undertakings. For beginning researchers I recommend NZARN as a place where your work is valued alongside that of more experienced academics and practitioners. It is a place of lively academic debate, supported risk-taking and above all, collegiality. If you are not so new to our organisation -- welcome back! It is good to know that you are still finding ways to investigate your practice and you are willing to share your adventures and insights with us. You will enjoy this year\'s programme as you catch up with old friends and make new ones. For further information please check the conference website on www.cce.ac.nz/conferences/action.
