| International ... |
The theme of the conference will be "Managing Growth" reflecting the 85% increase from 1999 in the number of international students deciding to study in New Zealand. This exciting increase is a tribute to the quality of the New Zealand education system and the challenge now is to ensure that this quality is not only maintained, but also improved.
Representatives attend the Conference from all sectors of the education industry - universities, polytechnics and institutes of technology, secondary schools, English language schools and private training establishments. There are an increasing number of representatives from education agencies from throughout the world who also attend and use the Conference to expand their contacts in New Zealand.
Government is taking an increased interest in international education. This year, it has introduced the compulsory Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students and is also proposing a levy on the industry to cover the development, promotion, and quality assurance of the export education industry.
The Conference programme will include papers and presentations on these significant government initiatives for the industry and will provide an opportunity for delegates to comment on and potentially influence the application and impact of these initiatives.
There is increasing interest by academics in researching various aspects of international education in New Zealand. The results of some of this research will be presented at the Conference. There will also be reviews of market developments and strategies for the future. Speakers from New Zealand and overseas will address the Conference.
The social programme includes the Conference Dinner on Thursday 12 September where delegates can relax with their peers.
COSTS:
Education New Zealand members $600 + GST(12.5%) per delegate
Non-Education New Zealand members $750 + GST(12.5%) per delegate
Further details on the Conference programme and speakers will be posted on
this site as they become available.
