Selwyn House focuses on putting the foundations in place to ensure our girls receive a remarkable education that will prepare them for the global society they will live and lead in. Every girl is encouraged to be remarkable. A Selwyn House education is much more than just academic. The School encourages each girl to discover her strengths and talents and use them for personal growth and to celebrate her individual worth. Teachers are inspirational - they are focused on helping, and challenging, our students to do their best.  Our school motto, ‘I am, I can, I ought, I will’, is as relevant today as it was when introduced at our foundation. It encourages the students to believe in themselves and to strive for what they want to achieve.

Our Curriculum
We offer the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP) from Pre-school to Year 8. Our high quality education encourages international mindedness and a positive attitude to learning. At the heart of the programme’s philosophy is a commitment to structured, purposeful inquiry as the leading vehicle for learning. The New Zealand curriculum underpins the core subjects of Reading, Writing and Mathematics.

Opportunities Abound
Students at Selwyn House enjoy a wide range of athletic, artistic, co-curricular and leadership opportunities that make school life vibrant for them - the School's specialist teachers ensure the girls reach their potential as they grow from learners into achievers, and then into leaders. There are a number of music and drama options, sports and artistic opportunities - all with specialist teachers and fantastic facilities, including an Astroturf, swimming pool, and modern up-to-date technology rooms.

Leading in a Digital Age
Our students are given the opportunities to develop knowledge and skills with digital technologies so they are equipped to respond to rapid changes in our society. Robotics is introduced from Year 1, implementing 21st Century technologies and fostering problem-solving skills, communication skills, teamwork skills, independence, imagination and creativity.

International Students and Boarding
Selwyn House, offering boarding to Years 5 to 8 girls, focuses on a small family environment, caring for the needs of each boarder. Girls are provided with an enriching life and activities outside the classroom, and have access to the school's extensive resources as part of their home life. This is combined with welcoming bedrooms, a well-equipped kitchen where the girls can make their own snacks, and relaxed dining and living facilities. Our wonderful chef, Martin, is renowned in Christchurch for his yummy food. When a girl becomes part of the Selwyn House community, she joins a school with a long tradition of educating young women. The school has traditionally focused on offering a unique and innovative education, which continues to evolve to meet the challenges of the 21-century.
