Hairdressing Industry Training Organisation
Hair and Beauty Apprenticeships
HITO is the industry training organisation (ITO) for barbering, beauty and hairdressing.
We look after the apprenticeship programme and arrange apprenticeship training. We also set the standards of New Zealand's barbering, beauty and hairdressing qualifications. Working closely with our industry associations and others, we make sure that the skills employers want are reflected in the qualifications we help design.
The first step in beginning a career is to find a barbershop, salon or clinic willing to take you on as an apprentice. Speak to them and make sure it's a workplace that you will be comfortable in. If you are still at school, you can enter our Gateway Programme to find out what a job in one of these industries is like.
A New Zealand apprenticeship is the best way to become a qualified hairdresser, barber, beauty therapist or nail technician. You learn in a real workplace, with real people, and you earn while you learn so you won't need a big student loan.
Everything you need to take the first steps in beginning a creative and exciting career is on the HITO website.
