REACH Education

REACH Education has a unique function. It is New Zealand's only fulltime specialist provider of quality professional development in gifted education.

REACH supports teachers at every level of schooling from early childhood through to high school, from beginning teacher to management, and from gifted education novice to experienced GATE coordinator. It works also with educational psychologists, counsellors, RTLBs and others who are dealing with gifted learners.

REACH offers a range of workshops, provides mentoring support, organises events such as the 2009 national conference on gifted education, Reaching Forward, and utilises its network of international contacts to bring leading experts in the field to New Zealand.

The REACH Certificate of Effective Practice in Gifted Education is a one-semester course with a strong practical focus, built round three interwoven strands, understanding, identifying, and catering for the gifted learner. Participants receive a wealth of resources, work individually with experienced tutors, and have course work directly linked to their own professional situation. Delivered online in a simple easy-to-use format, the REACH Certificate course has won high praise from its graduates and has recently been invited to extend its coverage to Australia.

REACH Education is led by Rosemary Cathcart. Formerly founding director of  the George Parkyn Centre for Gifted Education and the One Day School, author of They're Not Bringing My Brain Out and numerous articles on gifted education, Rosemary has an established reputation throughout New Zealand for her work in this field.
