A Prep School, Middle School and Senior School
Our focus is to provide an all-round education; where sound work, ethics, self discipline and independent learning and leadership skills are fostered; developing balanced individuals who can go into the community with confidence and become successful citizens.
A dual curriculum is offered to students in Year 12-13 teaching both the IB Diploma Programme and NCEA. The school programme prepares students for NCEA at Levels 1, 2 and 3, and the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme, Middle Years Programme and IB Diploma Programme.
Scots College strives to create all-round men and we view the curriculum holistically – it is about more than academic study and, as such, we expect and encourage all our boys to be involved in the wider life of the College through cultural, sporting and service commitments. This enables them to give expression to talents and skills not necessarily evident in class. At Scots we place great value on our music, drama and sporting programmes. There is a wide range of sports available at all levels and we enjoy considerable success in regional and national competitions. All weather surfaces allow a number of sports to continue through the year.
Over 90% of Scots College students gain university entrance each year, with pass-rates and endorsements making it one of the top performing academic schools in New Zealand. Students are offered a personalised education in a safe and nurturing environment.
Scots offers a wide range of sporting options with a dedicated team of specialised staff and facilities including a High Performance Athletes’ Academy, Rugby Club and Football Academy. The Scots College Football Academy has club football relationships both nationally and internationally including the Wellington Phoenix Academy and San Jose Earthquakes optimising potential for its footballers’ futures.
The Performing Arts Programme enables students to take part in extensive choral and instrumental programmes and develop skills and experience in Drama activities.
The College Pipe Band has members from Years 9 to 13. The Band performs at College functions and is invited to play at many special occasions in the City. They have an enviable competition record.
Scots College has over 45 International Students from Asia and Europe. These students stay in the Boarding House or in Homestay accommodation, arranged by the College. Those who are proficient in English take part in the full academic programme whilst students requiring English language assistance are enrolled in the College ESOL programme.
In conjunction with other leading NZ Girls’ Independent Schools International Students can join the StudyCare programme which is designed to provide an exceptional experience as students settle into life in New Zealand.
The College has boarding facilities for 100 students from Year 7 to Year 13. Weekly and full term boarding options are available. Boarders are closely involved in all facets of College life and develop independence, maturity, leadership skills and lasting friendships.
