Auckland Institute of Studies (AIS)

INDIVIDUAL FOCUS, INTERNATIONAL VISION

www.ais.ac.nz

We are extremely proud to be able to introduce you to Auckland Institute of Studies (AIS), Auckland’s most international, independent degree granting tertiary institution and one of the oldest and well established. Over 15,000 students from 50 different countries have passed through our doors and become our ‘brand ambassadors’.

We extend a warm welcome to all international and domestic students who wish to study with us.

Location
Situated in 3.5 hectares of trees, lawns and sprawling grounds, the AIS campuses are located in Mt Albert, a short distance from downtown Auckland. Our beautiful surroundings and the supportive environment coupled with the cultural diversity of students we have on campus make AIS a great place to study !

Public transport is available from the city centre at regular intervals and both train and bus stops are located close to our campuses. A shuttle bus for students also runs between the St Helens Campus and Auckland City, which is close to major bus, rail and harbor ferry terminals.

Programmes
AIS is highly regarded for its excellence in teaching. We are accredited and approved by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority – NZQA, are signatories to the Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students and members of Independent Tertiary Institutions – ITI.

We currently offer a range of Postgraduate awards (including an MBA) and bachelors’ degree and diploma qualifications in Tourism, Hospitality, IT and International Business (click on View all courses tab on the right for full course details). Our programmes, offered over three semesters each year – January/February, May and September allow dedicated students to complete their qualifications in a much shorter time and enter the workforce faster than other traditional institutions. Class numbers are kept low to maintain quality standards and ensure a better level of positive interaction between lecturers and students.

Our English Language Centre prepares students from overseas to successfully undertake tertiary studies. Students who wish to study English can commence their studies on any Monday. IELTS Preparation, English for Academic Purposes, Group study options, and a Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (CertTESOL) are also offered.

Studying at AIS
Studying at AIS is a ‘uniquely rewarding experience’.

Successful AIS students not only gain an impressive, internationally recognised and respected qualification, but also demonstrate high levels of maturity, personal commitment and integrity. Every student is equipped to meet the challenges of current competitive business environments. The learning and development of each student is guided by well-qualified and experienced teaching faculty who are committed to helping students achieve success.

Learning pathways and support strategies are in place to cater for the different skills and abilities of international students, maximising their potential to achieve their goals. A friendly, caring environment on campus provides a balance to our academic programmes.

Facilities
Students are offered a choice of dormitory accommodation on campus – a total of 140 beds with single or multi-share option rooms with cooking and laundry facilities are available at reasonable rates per week. We can also arrange accommodation with Kiwi homestay families who not only provide an excellent environment for international students to practice their English but also an understanding and appreciation of Kiwi culture. All our homestay families are carefully selected.

Safety, security and welfare of all students is a key objective and AIS offers 24x7, 365 days a year security access on our campuses.

A comprehensive library at the St Helens Campus offers a wide variety of books, journals, magazines, CD-ROMs, newspapers, audio and visual tapes all supporting the various courses of study. There are separate reading and study rooms as well as an Independent Learning Centre where students can use computers with CD-ROM and foreign language software. A high-tech language laboratory, computer labs and Internet are available across both campuses.

Campus facilities also include free parking, a tennis court, a sports hall and auditorium, a fully fitted gymnasium and cafeterias.

Student Support Services
AIS has a multilingual Student Services team to provide help and support on a broad range of issues such as banking, transport, visa and insurance. An Online Immigration Co-ordinator is available on campus to assist students on visa issues.

Support strategies are in place to cater for the different skills and abilities of individual students, thereby enhancing opportunities to achieve their goals and the availability of a Study Skills Advisor and our Study Buddy Programme is a reflection of the importance we give to achieve this objective.

AIS is also committed to help students in the development of their careers. A range of employment services are offered and information is provided to assist students to gain employment by our Job Placement Centre.
