NEW DYSLEXIA BOOKLET
The Trustees of the Foundation are very pleased to advise all our Members that the Ministry of Education have now launched and distributed a new Dyslexia Booklet to all NZ schools.
This new brochure is intended to provide information about dyslexia for schools and teachers, parents and students, educators and community support groups.
The brochure is very tangible evidence of the Ministry of Education recognition of dyslexia and also their understanding and consideration of dyslexia as a way of thinking.
The brochure provides information based on the Ministry's definition of dyslexia, and outlines how early recognition, assessment, and early intervention in the form of alternative learning strategies for the classroom can help dyslexic children understand and overcome many potential learning challenges. The brochure is also a celebration of the diversity of all our learners in the classroom.
The Trustees are thrilled that the Ministry has made such tremendous progress over the past few months - from Ministerial recognition in April 2007 to a positive, informative brochure that will improve the understanding of dyslexia nationwide.
We would like to recognize and thank everyone who has continued to lobby and work towards a better education environment for our dyslexic students. All our efforts are well rewarded in this very useful brochure from the Ministry.
