Diversity on the Big Screen - ID360 Short Film Finalists Announced

Fifteen young filmmakers from across New Zealand have made it to the finals of the ID360 Short Film Competition.

Young people in New Zealand have produced fantastic films that reflect the diversity of cultures and ethnicities in New Zealand, said Youth Affairs Minister Nanaia Mahuta. Congratulations to the finalists. I encourage everyone to go online and vote for the Peoples Choice Award.

Five finalists from each age category are in the running to win the Peoples Choice Award.

Finalists for the 12 to15 age range are:
MuffatagProductions: Uncut by Corben Taylor, (Auckland) A glimpse of our world by Thomas Devereaux (Auckland), No- one else by Jessica Kilbride Parris (Nelson), Just another day by Alice Tate (Gisborne), Sand and Ice Cream by Finn Stichbury (Auckland)

Finalists the 16 to18 age range are:
Circle by Samuel White (Balcutha), Identity and Diversity :New Zealand Youth by Kathleen Collins (Wellington), No Kiwi Restaurants by Thomas King and Carl Naus (Auckland), Play Matthew Girvan (New Plymouth), Me, Myself and Plasticine by Tegan Hall (Hamilton)

Judges Jess Feast, Zoe McIntosh and David Rea were impressed with the diversity of the short films particularly the quality of production and the way young people explored the theme of being a young person from Aotearoa/New Zealand, in their short films.

It was a real privilege to view such diverse, inspirational and high quality films. Making a short film is time consuming and requires lots of hard work, and all the young film makers should be very proud of their efforts. said ID360 judge Zoe McIntosh.

Voting opens on 27 March and runs until 11 April. Cast your vote by visiting www.id360.govt.nz.

The ID360 Short Film Competition category winners, grand prize winner and the winner of the Peoples Choice Award will be announced at an awards ceremony on 21 April at 5.30pm at the New Zealand Film Archive in Wellington.
