Possible Characteristics of Gifted Underachievers:


 


Social Emotional Characteristics/Behaviors may include:




  •  Low self-esteem


  •  Unrealistic self concept


  • Withdrawn, non-communicative; avoids risks, feels powerless


  • Passive -- complies only enough to �get by�


  • Aggressive, hostile, defensive, rebellious


  • May reject authority


  • Blames problems on others


  • Poor social skills- diificulty functioning or fitting in a group


  •  Identifies strongly with no one or two close friends


  • Can be inflexible                           

School Characteristics/Behaviors may include:




  •  Negative attitude toward school


  •  Often says they are bored


  • Work incomplete or poorly done


  • Can be a perfectionist


  • Easily distracted, short concentration span unless it is something they are personally intertested in.


  • Behavioural issues -- wanders around room, disrupts class


  • Someone else is to blame for any problems


  • Can perform poorly in tests


  •  Difficulty establishing focus or goals


  • Often connects with similar children
