2010 Hospitality Career Scholarships    


Hospitality Standards Institute (HSI) is pleased to offer eight scholarship opportunities to encourage keen and committed school students into hospitality careers, and for people currently working in hospitality, to support them to up-skill and further their careers. HSI promotes hospitality as a positive career, actively grows talent and celebrates achievement.


The two scholarships available for School Students this year are:

HSI Future Star Scholarships  



  • Cookery Future Star � Modern Apprenticeship


  • Food & Beverage Future Star � Modern Apprenticeship

Value - The scholarships mean winners can become a Modern Apprentice in either Cookery, Food & Beverage or Food Services, and have all study-related costs up to the value of $1,200 met by HSI Who can apply? Any secondary school student who currently takes part in a  Hospitality Gateway programme Conditions - Winners must apply for a Modern Apprenticeship within 6 months of finishing school.

Applicants must submit:


  • A relevant Application Form � download from www.hsi.co.nz/career-scholarships-2010


  • A 300�500 word statement on �Why I want a career in hospitality, the goals I have for the future, and how the HSI Future Star Scholarship will help me to achieve them�


  • A letter of recommendation from a current teacher


  •  A current photograph of the applicant


  • A letter of support from their current Gateway employer, or HSI Schools Advisor
 



The six up-skilling scholarships available for Hospitality Professionals this year are:
Step Forward Scholarships � three on offer


  • Step Forward � to achieving the National Certificate in Hospitality: Operations Supervision, Food & Beverage Strand Level 4

Value - The Step Forward scholarships mean people moving into or already in supervisory and junior management positions in the hospitality industry can enrol in the Step Forward programme and have all study-related costs up to the value of $1,500 paid by HSI

Who can apply? Any current employee in the hospitality business who wants and is able to undertake further training at this specific level and in this specific programme.  Conditions - Winners must enrol in the Step Forward workplace qualification within 6 months of winning the scholarship.

Applicants must submit:


  • A relevant Application Form - download from www.hsi.co.nz/career-scholarships-2010


  • A 300�500 word statement about �How I believe the Step Forward programme will benefit my employer and help my career�


  • A letter of recommendation from a current supervisor/employer


  •  A letter of recommendation from an HSI Training Advisor (if applicable)


  • A current photograph of the applicant


  • Details of previous work experience and study
 


  �Moving Up� Scholarship - three on offer

Value - The Moving Up scholarship mean people wanting to achieve a  National Diploma in Hospitality Management qualification � such as an HSI Corporate Traineeship -can have all study-related costs up to the value of $1,500 paid by HSI

Who can apply? Any current employee in hospitality who would like to undertake further training at this higher level.  Conditions - Winners must enrol in a relevant workplace qualification within 6 months of winning the scholarship.

Applicants must submit:

  • A 300�500 word statement about �How I believe the Moving Up Scholarship will benefit my employer and help my career�


  • A recommendation letter from a current supervisor/employer


  • A recommendation letter from an HSI Training Advisor (if applicable)


  • A current photograph of the applicant


  • Details of previous work experience and study
