Appointments to Councils of Tertiary Education Institutions


Tertiary Education Minister Steven Joyce has today announced new appointments to the University of Waikato, Massey University, Te Whare Wananga o Awanuiarangi and the Waikato Institute of Technology.
The new appointees are:


.1.Mervyn Dallas to the University of Waikato Council
.2.Bernard Vanderkolk to Massey University Council. 
.3.Matiu Dickson to Te Whare Wananga o Awanuiarangi Council. 
.4.Maxine Moana_Tuwhangai to Waikato Institute of Technology Council


Mr Joyce says the four appointees all provide an excellent range of skills which will complement the existing expertise on the Councils�.


�I would like to acknowledge those Council members whose terms have recently finished. I appreciate the hard work and dedication of all Council members, and thank them for their efforts in supporting our tertiary education system.� 
 
Biographical details of new Council appointees
Mervyn Dallas
Mr Dallas is the Chief Financial Officer for Zespri International Ltd. He previously worked as General Manager of Finance for the SkyCity group and has experience in shipping, commercial banking and the hospitality industry. He is a Chartered Accountant and holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Auckland.
Bernard Vanderkolk
Mr Vanderkolk has served the Palmerston North community as a Crown Solicitor since 1983.  He is Chairman of the Manfield Park Charitable Trust, Chairman New Zealand Netherlands Foundation, and is on the Board of Trustees of the Bio Commerce Centre. He is a graduate of Canterbury University, and a member of the New Zealand Lawyers and Conveyances Disciplinary Tribunal.
Matiu Dickson
Mr Dickson is currently the Chair of Faculty and a Senior Law Lecturer at the University of Waikato. He practiced in the M�ori Land, Family and Youth Courts and was appointed as Counsel for Child and Youth Advocate Counsel. His governance experience includes roles as current Chair of Te R�nanga o Kirikiriroa, previous membership and Chair of School Board of Trustees committees and scientific advisory groups.  Mr Dickson�s community experience includes serving as a Councillor on Mt Maunganui Borough and the Tauranga District Council and previously as a member of the Bay of Plenty Legal Aid Committee. His tribal affiliations are to Ng�iterangi and Ng�ti Ranginui.
Maxine Moana_Tuwhangai
Ms Moana�Tuwhangai is a chartered accountant and a member of the Waikato Tainui�Te Aratura Board.  She is Chair of the Northern Region Health School, and Deputy Chair of the Proprietors of Taharoa C Block Inc. Ms Moana�Tuwhangai is chair of Te Kete Manaaki Health Services Trust Inc, an administrator of the Te Hauauru Claimants Collective, and treasurer of the Hinemoa Athletics Club. Her iwi affilations are to Tainui and Ngati Maniapoto.
