UCOL Palmerston North students had a very successful weekend at the Wellington Culinary Fare.  Students from the Certificate in Hospitality, Professional Cookery and Baking and Pastry programmes were triumphant in their competition results, winning the Team Gold and individual medals.

The culinary fare competition is for trainee chefs and front of house staff, and the Ian MacLennan trophy is awarded for highest points in the Junior Team Skills event.  Debra Frederick won Gold for her Gorgeous Gateau, James Chaston won Bronze for his Hot Chicken Brunch, and Sarah Cameron won Bronze for her Lamb Entre.

The crowning success of the competition was our team of students who helped UCOL to win for the third year in a row, the Ian MacLennan Memorial Teams Trophy.  Chefs, Charlotte Darlow and Amanda Parris and waiter Ashley White, trained by UCOL lecturers Sharon Mann and Mark Smith, won Gold medals the first awarded in this competition during its six years of running said Julie Poole, Head of Tourism, Hospitality and Catering at UCOL.

The Whanganui UCOL team were also very successful gaining Silver. The competition was very close with only nine marks between all teams.

The next intakes of UCOLs highly successful Professional Cookery, Bakery, and Hospitality programmes commence in July and are already filling up quickly.
