Dinosaurs Alive Returns

Darwin and the Dinosaur

Origins Gallery
10.30am & 2.30pm
Every Saturday & Sunday until 23 December 2007
Free entry with Darwin exhibition tickets otherwise $5 entry

Indulge in some fantastic time travel in the weekends leading up to Christmas. Meet Mr Darwin in the flesh - and see him converse with an actual dinosaur about the evolutionary merits of such animals as the Moa, the albatross and the kiwi!

Mr Darwin will be appearing with Basil the Museums resident Dryosaur in the Origins Gallery to ponder on the evolution of the species and in particular New Zealands unique variety of species.

This is the first time in over a year that Basil has made regular daytime appearances in the Museum. Since the birth of their two babies at Christmas, Basil and Delarus have made only brief appearances at the highly popular Night at Auckland Museum. Now Basil is ready to walk out with Mr Darwin and ponder natural selection, origin of the species and just how did all his ancestors die out and everyone is invited to join them.

Professor Peter Gluckman

Darwin lecture series continues - Darwin and Medicine

Prof Peter Gluckman FRS
Director of the Liggins Institute
Professor of Paediatric and Perinatal Biology University of Auckland

$10 or $5 Museum members and Liggins Institute members
Bookings on 09 306 7048

The research activity undertaken by Prof Gluckman and colleagues at The University of Aucklands Liggins Institute is based around the concept that environmental effects during foetal life influence adult health. This foetal programming promotes successful reproduction and survival in potentially adverse conditions. The biological and population health implications of this phenomenon are now being explored in relation to evolutionary theory. Peter Gluckman is an endocrinologist and foetal physiologist. He founded the Liggins Institute and is one of only two resident New Zealand medical scientists elected to the Fellowship of the Royal Society. He has recently published Mismatch - Why our World No Longer Fits Our Bodies.
