The M�ori Education Trust (Te tari o ng� kaitiaki m� ng� take M�tauranga M�ori ) was formed under the M�ori Education Foundation Act 1961. Its basic objective was to encourage M�ori into tertiary education. The initial scholarships were derived from public raised funds and private bequests which were subsidised by Government. Additional income is derived by the provision of fee-based service contracts.
