Resource Teachers of Literacy in training. March 12, 2002

110 Resource Teachers of Literacy have been appointed to enhance support for students with 'severe' difficulties with reading and writing. These teachers are currently working in schools and recently began a two year graduate or under-graduate programme provided by the consortium of Auckland, Dunedin and Christchurch Colleges of Education. This is a Ministry of Education initiative following recommendations made by the Ministry's Literacy Task Force. The Resource Teachers of Literacy will work alongside Resource Teachers of Learning and Behaviour, another successful Ministry of Education initiative.
