Big Pay Rise recommended for Secondary Teachers.b>
An arbitration panel recommended big pay rises for secondary school teachers.
The arbitration panel has recommended that secondary teachers should get a 3.5 per cent pay increase immediately increasing to around 12.1 per cent next year.
The Government convened a panel to arbitrate on the long running pay dispute between themselves and the Post Primary Teachers Association.
The Arbitration panel decided not to go for a "quick fix" solution to the dispute which has lasted for16-months.One of the major issues has been the dissatisfaction with certain aspects of NCEA.
The panel stated that it "...sought to address the recruitment and retention and wider workload issues in the secondary sector in a way that would provide stability..."
It seems that issues about the continuation of pay parity between secondary teachers and primary teachers may arise from the findings.
